Move of IRC channel: come and join #aunzichix

By agreement the Australians and New Zealanders who hang out on
LinuxChix IRC are merging into a new IRC channel, since we were often hanging out in each other's channels anyway.

Our new channel is #aunzichix on irc.linuxchix.org, for Australians, New Zealanders and Islanders.

All former regulars of #aussiechix and #nzchix are invited to join us in our new channel.

*** Note: AussieChix and LinuxChix NZ are remaining separate chapters with their own websites, mailing lists, etc. We're just hanging out in the same IRC channel now. Come say hi. ***

Girl Geek Dinners Auckland - Open media and Open source DDR

At Auckland's Girl Geek Dinner this month Tamara Olliver showed off her Open Source Dance Pad, and Cherie Carbines gave a demonstration of Open Media's myPVR.

Report from Cherie:

After quite a lot of interest was generated around myPVR at the last event; Cherie was asked to demonstrate myPVR at tonight's dinner.

With Steve there to answer the more technical questions, we did a
30minute demonstration. The audience were very interested in myPVR and seemed pleased to have the opportunity to see this technology in action.

Girl Geek Dinners

NZ Girl Geek Dinners started in Auckland in November 2007 as an offshoot of the London Girl Geek Dinners.  We now have a group started in Wellington and coming soon, a group in Christchurch.  The aim of these get-togethers is to provide a welcoming atmosphere and a platform for learning in an informal environment, to make technology accessible and to be of interest to all age groups and all people, particularly women, whatever their background.  It is an opportunity for like-minded 'girls'
to talk about technology over food and drinks.
